Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Ubuntu 11.04 (natty) reached end-of-life on October 28, 2012.
See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases We appreciate that this bug may be old and you might not be interested in discussing it any more. But if you are then please upgrade to the latest Ubuntu version and re-test. ** Changed in: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/827449 Title: pulseaudio doesn't handle switching users Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: When switching users, sound does not work for the new user. Messages are seen in the system log like this: Aug 20 17:29:31 localhost pulseaudio[19234]: pid.c: Daemon already running. Aug 20 17:29:31 localhost pulseaudio[18979]: x11wrap.c: XOpenDisplay() failed Aug 20 17:29:31 localhost pulseaudio[18979]: module.c: Failed to load module "module-x11-publish" (argument: "display=:0.0"): initialization failed. It seems likely related to http://bugs.debian.org/cgi- bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=593746. I don't think all the information presented there is currently relevant - or the workaround effective - as the start-pulseaudio-x11 script isn't used to start pulseaudio and it does use autospawn on Ubuntu. My current workaround is to start a new pulseaudio for the second user (without killing the old one).
