Indeed it works if I use the USB installer and boot from it. Dies a horrible death if I try to use the alsa-hda-dkms stuff. Actually removes all audio devices completely. I needed to do this to get back the card after trying the alsa_hda_dkms sudo apt-get purge alsa-hds-kms sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev/ppa; sudo apt-get update;sudo apt-get dist-upgrade; sudo apt-get install linux-sound- base alsa-base alsa-utils gdm ubuntu-desktop linux-image-`uname -r` libasound2; sudo apt-get -y --reinstall install linux-sound-base alsa- base alsa-utils gdm ubuntu-desktop linux-image-`uname -r` libasound2; killall pulseaudio; rm -r ~/.pulse*; sudo usermod -aG `cat /etc/group | grep -e '^pulse:' -e '^audio:' -e '^pulse-access:' -e '^pulse-rt:' -e '^video:' | awk -F: '{print $1}' | tr '\n' ',' | sed 's:,$::g'` `whoami` Ok, so response to aplay -l is **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC272X Analog [ALC272X Analog] Subdevices: 0/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 grep "Codec:" /proc/asound/card*/codec* /proc/asound/card0/codec#0:Codec: Realtek ALC272X /proc/asound/card0/codec#3:Codec: Intel IbexPeak HDMI But sound settings on desktop finds now hardware.
