I've tried "killall pulseaudio" in Terminal and lots of other things, such as reinstalling Alsa and PulseAudio. I have even updated my kernel. The Audio button at the bar at the top (don't know the name, I think it's System Bar) has also disappeared. So I use System Settings to change Sound settings trying to get it to work. The Ubuntu startup sound (the African drums) work.
