This still happens on Ubuntu 16.04. The burning itself is fast, takes a couple minutes, but the image checksum takes about 20 minutes. It is not clear what this does, why it happens and why it's so slow. I canceled it when it was about 70% done and it said "Success 18.4 EB" (I only wrote a 3.3 GB ISO). This bug should be easily reproducible with any ISO.

After burning there was a step labeled "Creating image checksum". This is not very clear (unless you are an experienced brasero user). As I understand, it is reading back the disc content to verify the burn was without errors. The message should be changed to be more clear. Users care "what" is done (verification), not "how" it is done (by computing and comparing a checksum - I guess).
