I purged libreoffice* and reinstalled. That removed the problem. I guess
some files were left over from an earlier installation of the
development version.

I am writing or deleting text, and then all of a sudden, LibreOffice
Writer stops responding. I cannot get out of the program. After a
while, Gnome stops and I am back at the login screen. It seems like a
major memory leak that doesn't stop before Gnome gives up.
