Maybe this will help somebody, the only thing that works for me: FoxitReader creates the file /home/nis/.local/share/applications
but gnome-software needs the directory /home/nis/.local/share/applications/ After deleting /home/nis/.local/share/applications all works well again. (I installed FoxitReader as newcomer from Windows... and now I tested all things proposed here.
