Switch to a virtual terminal by pressing CTRL-ALT-F1 and login.  Then
try:

sudo apt-get --fix-broken install

When finished, switch back to the desktop with CTRL-ALT-F7.

  terminal not opening

Status in cairo package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Terminal not opening in my Ubuntu 16.04.Before this problem occurs a
  update was interrupted due to system shutdown(power outage). Cant even
  open vim. They just show blink in taskbar n nothing happens. Calendar
  on the menubar also not showing.
