Title:
Allow logging in as a guest from the main GDM screen
Status in gdm package in Ubuntu:
Triaged
Bug description:
Binary package hint: gdm
I can switch to a guest session from the panel applet fine. But from
the main GDM screen, I can't. This strikes me as odd.
One use case would be my friend picks up my laptop in my living room.
Asks if he can check his gmail. If he can just boot it up and log in,
we're fine. But right now, I have to first come over, log in (which
has the side effect of launching all my startup programs), then switch
to a guest session. Seems cumbersome.
I can see some arguments against enabling it, security wise. So I
wouldn't necessarily say turn it on by default. But adding an option
to enable it to the Login Window preference dialog would be nice.
There are plenty of cases where the security concerns are not relevant
(especially since if the user has physical access there are bad things
they can do anyway and all that).
