Thank you for your bug report. It works here, from the description it
looks like gdm might consider that wayland can't be used on your video
driver and lists only x11 sessions as a result. Since you have one 1
session to list in that case it also explains why the cog has no list.
Could you enable gdm debugging in /etc/gdm3/custom.conf and see if the
logs have any hint about that

Test Case
1. Install latest artful desktop and proceed with the installation
2. Reboot to gdm
3. Select a user and click on the cog to select a session.
4. When the user logs in with the default selection it starts a wayland
session
Expected result
There is a cog, when the user clicks on it, it shows a list of sessions
available.
Actual result
the cog is not displayed and there is no way to select a session and the
default session starts xorg.
