Note that this is unlikely to be a network issue. Much larger files from
the same SMB share are opened with other applications almost
instantaneously.

Title:
Long delays on opening & freezes on closing application with SMB
  shared files

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Opening even small files (14.3kB) from an SMB share results in delays
  of 20 seconds or more.

Clicking to close the Calc application after the file is saved results
in a freeze. Only manually killing the libreoffice processes will
  close the application.

(journal.txt deleted - judged irrelevant after replication of bug
resulted in no log output during the period the issue was taking
  place).
