Title:
FTP timeout problems
Status in “gvfs” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
Hi, I have a problem that has annoyed me for several years now.
Nautilus has big problems with FTP connections.
Although it was changed in version 11.10 of Ubuntu it still do not
work as expected.
What happens?
If I try to access a FTP folder from the bookmarks when the FTP connection is
dead I get a box saying the host has closed the connection. I click OK, and try
to press the bookmark again, several times, and nothing happens. So I try to
unmount the FTP folder by clicking on the "eject" icon in the bookmarks and
then nautilus closes since it was a ftp folder that was open. Then I can open
nautilus again and connect.
I also have problems editing files from an FTP folder using gedit, but
they are not so serious, and is improved from 11.04. If the FTP
connection is dead, you will get a warning, this must be removed
before you can press Ctrl + S again to save the file.
What I expect to happen?
When I try to open or save something in an FTP folder when the connection is
dead, I want it to reconnect automatically.
Since I'm using at least 40 hours a week to edit files in an FTP or SFTP
folder, this is a big problem for me. I really, really appreciate if someone
can fix it. :)
