Since updating to 17.10 I get the following error when trying to convert
a tiff file to pdf with jpeg compression:

tiff2pdf -j -o out.pdf out1.tif 
JPEGLib: Backing store not supported.
tiff2pdf: Error writing encoded strip to output PDF out.pdf.
tiff2pdf: An error occurred creating output PDF file.

This problem has likely been fixed here:
https://github.com/vadz/libtiff/commit/e56861447a7a9584f92f32be53a7e4588d09ffe8
