This is not just a problem for KDE users, but for anyone who runs a 'buntu flavour without Unity.

When running under KDE, having libunity9 installed confuses other applications. In particular, the minimize/maximize/close window controls in Chrome and Chromium are missing when the window are maximized. See:https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=375650 (Comment 41 onwards). I've uninstalled pidgin, pidgin-libnotify and libunity9. I've downloaded the deb files pidgin_2.10.12-0ubuntu5.1_amd64.deb and pidgin-libnotify_0.14-9ubuntu2_amd64.deb, extracted the pidgin deb. I modified the control file to set libunity9 as a Recommended rather than Required. I've then repackaged it into a deb and installed via dpkg -i. Pidgin seems to be functioning normally without libunity9 and Chrome and Chromium are back to normal. Did libunity9 get accidentally set as a requirement?
