Title:
  screencast freezes

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  running ubuntu 17.10
  it was a fresh install, i didn't upgrade to 17.10
  not running in xorg

  expected:
  Press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+R to start recording what is on your screen.

  A red circle is displayed in the top right corner of the screen when
  the recording is in progress.

  Once you have finished, press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+R again to stop the
  recording.

  The video is automatically saved in your Videos folder in your home
  folder, with a file name that starts with Screencast and includes the
  date and time it was taken.

  actual:
  i press ctrl+alt+shift+r, and nothing happens. no red dot appears. i press it 
again, everything freezes. music keeps playing. can't move mouse.
  gtx 1080, i5-8400
  i had chrome, sublime, some terminals, discord open
  had to reboot physically
