I have same behaviors.
The different icons on my desktop not working. (home, trash and any folder)
also with right click and select Open or open in new window or in new panel.
The Other icons works successfully: *.desktop and files with default 
application.

In my syslog:
Unable to create File Manager freedesktop proxy: Errore nel chiamare 
StartServiceByName per org.freedesktop.FileManager1: 
GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ExecFailed: Failed to execute 
program org.freedesktop.FileManager1: No such file or directory

and:
WARNING: Application 'nautilus-classic.desktop' killed by signal 9
Unrecoverable failure in required component nautilus-classic.desktop

and:
cannot open folder on desktop, freedesktop bus not ready

My configuration is:
Ubuntu 17.10
Gnome-Flashback
GNOME nautilus 3.26.0

ps:
nautilus-desktop --force
/usr/bin/nautilus --gapplication-service

  Click on desktop folders

Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  On my Ubuntu 17.10, sometimes when I click (double click) on a folder
  on the gnome desktop, nautilus doesn't start showing the directory
  content.

  Nautilus version is 1:3.26.0-0ubuntu1
