Title:
Lock screen overlay scrolling stutters

Bug description:
If I leave the login screen unattended the screensaver takes over.
Wake it up and there's an orange overlay screen that can be dragged
with the mouse. However it doesn't drag completely smoothly. It seems
that while the clock and date are still on-screen the drag only
achieves about 30 FPS. But after the clock is dragged up off-screen
the rendering becomes smooth (60 FPS).
I find it strange that showing the clock/date text seems to impact
rendering performance so dramatically. And I wonder if it's doing
something silly like re-rendering the text on every frame...
