I thought from mpt's guidance we wouldn't be supporting animations for
screenshots https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/restrictions-on-screenshots-

Title:
  GNOME Software doesn't support animated Gifs for screenshots

Status in GNOME Software:
  Confirmed
Status in gnome-software package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  I am running GNOME Software on Ubuntu 16.04. If I look for Tizonia, it
  shows the app description and a static screenshot. The media uploaded
  to the store is actually a gif, but GNOME Software doesn't seem to
  support it.

  Steps to reproduce

  * Open GNOME Software
  * Search for tizonia
  * Wait for screenshot to load

  Expected behaviour

  * Animated gif plays in the page for the application

  Actual behaviour

  * Only the first frame of the animated gif is displayed.

  See screenshot attached.

  This is the media as it has been uploaded to the store:-
