Oops, I had MUTTER_VERBOSE=1 and MUTTER_DEBUG=1. I also had MUTTER_USE_LOGFILE=/tmp/mutterlogs, and there were mutter log messages definitely going to /tmp, so it's surprising I was getting so much spam in /var/log/syslog.
With those turned off, I'm not getting constant spam but I do still get a lot of messages in syslog like so: Feb 3 11:20:31 xps15-9560 org.gnome.Shell.desktop[2297]: #11 0x7fff4db73230 I self-hosted:917 (0x7feebc3ee5e8 @ 394) Feb 3 11:20:31 xps15-9560 org.gnome.Shell.desktop[2297]: == Stack trace for context 0x5654e9533000 == Feb 3 11:20:31 xps15-9560 org.gnome.Shell.desktop[2297]: #0 0x7fff4db71cc0 b resource:///org/gnome/shell/ui/tweener.js:80 (0x7feebc3ddef0 @ 82) Feb 3 11:20:31 xps15-9560 org.gnome.Shell.desktop[2297]: #1 0x7fff4db71d60 b resource:///org/gnome/shell/ui/tweener.js:105 (0x7feebc3df230 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1746859 Title: gnome-shell wayland is spamming syslog with wl_ messages Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Whenever I run gnome-shell under wayland now in Ubuntu 18.04, I get thousands of messages in syslog like this: Feb 2 11:52:44 xps15-9560 gnome-terminal-server[32220]: [2769569.758] [email protected](9760355) Feb 2 11:52:44 xps15-9560 gnome-terminal-server[32220]: [2769618.845] -> [email protected](wl_buffer@50, 0, 0) Feb 2 11:52:44 xps15-9560 gnome-terminal-server[32220]: [2769618.888] -> [email protected]_buffer_scale(2) [email protected]_input_region(wl_region@48) Feb 2 11:52:44 xps15-9560 gnome-terminal-server[32220]: [2769619.235] -> [email protected](new id wl_callback@44) Feb 2 11:52:44 xps15-9560 gnome-terminal-server[32220]: [2769619.252] -> [email protected]() Feb 2 11:52:44 xps15-9560 org.gnome.Shell.desktop[31805]: [2769619.277] [email protected]_input_region(wl_region@48) Feb 2 11:52:44 xps15-9560 org.gnome.Shell.desktop[31805]: [2769619.286] [email protected]() Feb 2 11:52:44 xps15-9560 org.gnome.Shell.desktop[31805]: [2769619.293] -> [email protected]_id(48) Feb 2 11:52:44 xps15-9560 org.gnome.Shell.desktop[31805]: [2769619.342] [email protected](new id [email protected]_id(44) Feb 2 11:52:44 xps15-9560 gnome-terminal-server[32220]: [2769629.628] [email protected]_id(44) Feb 2 11:52:44 xps15-9560 gnome-terminal-server[32220]: [2769629.669] [email protected](344, 9760410, 46, 1) Feb 2 11:52:44 xps15-9560 gnome-terminal-server[32220]: [2769629.727] [email protected](9760414) This didn't used to happen and it doesn't happen running under X.
