Some people use gnome-shell without that metapackage installed. Test Case ========= Does gnome-shell recommend chrome-gnome-shell? Regression Potential ==================== Low. chrome-gnome-shell was already tested (LP: #1652537) Other Info ========== This is only a recommends since perhaps users of gnome-shell without ubuntu-gnome-desktop don't want a lot of extra packages installed. This isn't critical functionality. Ubuntu 17.04 was released with gnome-shell recommending chrome-gnome- shell. Currently, Ubuntu 17.10 Alpha's gnome-shell does not recommend chrome- gnome-shell because the Ubuntu Desktop Team is trying to get a minimal gnome-shell into main first then add the extra dependencies later. I expect chrome-gnome-shell to be in main and be restored as a recommends before 17.10 is released.
