Thanks. The common factor then in both reports of this bug is that
nouveau is in use. And historically, this isn't surprising. Nouveau has
occasionally had such missing textures bugs like this over the years.

Please try installing the Nvidia proprietary driver if you haven't
already:

  sudo apt install nvidia-driver-390

Another fix which may be required at the same time, or as an alternative
is to tell gdm3 to not try to use Wayland. You can do that by editing
/etc/gdm3/custom.conf and uncommenting:

  #WaylandEnable=false
