Public bug reported:
Using Software & Updates > Additional Drivers to switch from NVIDIA
driver 384.111 to Nouveau results in failure to load nouveau module.
Instead, the system defaults to some backup video driver. Multiple
monitors are plugged into the NVIDIA card but only one monitor appears
to be detected or receive output. The /var/log/Xorg.0.log contains
message "(EE) DRM failed to open device" and there is no /sys/class/drm
directory. Some apparently conflicting kernel drivers are still on the
system, including rivafb and nvidiafb.
Tested on two separate systems with configurations:
Ubuntu 14.04 & 16.04, kernel 4.4.0 lowlatency, LXDE desktop environment
** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
