transparent background doesn't work correctly

Bug description:
hi,
since update to ubuntu 14.04, i have noticed that selecting
Edit > Profile preferences > Background > Transparent background
doesn't work anymore. the terminal background (initially white)
becomes darker as "transparency" is increased, without becoming
transparent at all.
