Same issue here with a Dell wireless scanner. I don't think the hardware
matters, as the images are scanned fine by Simple Scan, and I can save
the scanned pages individually as PNG files.

But saving them in a PDF results in a file that has parts of the scanned
pages overlaying each other with some transparency. These PDF files are
not usable. (This used to work fine just a few weeks ago, so some update
must have messed something up.)

Title:
Save as PDF produces scrambled output

Status in simple-scan package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:

  1. release:
  Ubuntu 17.10 \n \l

  2. package info:
  simple-scan:
    Installed: 3.26.3-0ubuntu0.17.10.0
    Candidate: 3.26.3-0ubuntu0.17.10.0
    Version table:

       3.26.1-0ubuntu1 500

  3. When saving scan as pdf, it seems to be something wrong in the stream
compression.
If saving only one scanned page, it results with pixelated image with bunch
of pixels out of position
If saving multiple pages as pdf, the result is unreadable

Saving it as (loseless) png has no problems

  Additional info:

worked perfect before the last update
