I am new to bug reporting so apologies if I'm doing this wrong.

It seems I am also affected by this. I tried the upgrade from mate 17.10
to 18.04 with nvidia installed which lead to a black screen. Then I
tried upgrading first and then installing nvidia also a black screen. I
have a Lenovo w550s with a quadro k620m. Commenting out the "Primary
GPU" line in

/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/11-nvidia-prime.conf

and setting the file immutable seems to work. Nvidia settings shows my
GPU is used. However, running glxinfo I get the following error

Error: couldn't find RGB GLX visual or fbconfig

so I cannot confirm

Please let me know if I can provide any further information.
