As Ubuntu Bionic has gs 9.22, a2ping 2.77p does not work there. a2ping was updated by its maintainer to 2.83p, which is compatible with gs 9.22 or later as well as with old versions of gs, and has been in upstream CTAN since mid-March. See: https://ctan.org/pkg/a2ping It is included in TeX Live 2018 just released. a2ping 2.83p contains feature upgrade and some reorganization in packaging. I'm not sure if upgrading to 2.83p is acceptable for Bionic, so appended is a minimal patch to update 2.77p to 2.77p1. This patch was acked by the maintainer. This issue was first observed on Fedora 27 when gs was upgraded from 9.20 to 9.22. It was reported at: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1530268 I provided the same patch there, but it has not been packaged successfully there yet. I'd appreciate if a2ping could restore compatibility on Ubuntu Bionic. Thanks!
