I could narrow this issue to the NVIDIA graphics card. If Intel is enabled (prime-select) the issue disappears and the machine sleeps sound and quiet.

On previous releases of Ubuntu I would close the lid to suspend it. 17.10 doesn't suspend on lid close, which has caused my laptop to overheat in my bag a couple of times. I have installed tweak tool and made sure the power section toggle switch is on. But it makes no difference. I have also tried rebooting, flipping the toggle back and forth, and still nothing. Should I see a key change somewhere in dconf-editor once I flip the switch? Does suspend work for others, on the T450?
