To avoid any odd-looking padding I think the solution would be to
enforce the OSD to stay as a square always, and just optionally paint
the bar over the top (possibly with a border to avoid conflicting with
some/future icons).

Bug description:
  When using audio hotkeys to adjust the audio volume, I found the
  position of audio mute icon doesn't keep alignment to audio on icon.

  Please compare the attached screenshots, i.e. AudioMute.png and
  AudioOn.png, to see the difference.
