What I Expected To Happen: Select multiple files using CTRL-Click
method so that I can move them to another directory.
What Actually Happened: I accidentally CTRL-DoubleClicked which seems
to have set off a Nautilus hang.
Here is a sequence of events, including some probably trivial details,
but I figure everything helps:
1. On an EXT4 partition separate from the rest of Ubuntu, where I
store large multimedia files, I was about to move multiple large files
and directories (around 1gb each) to a nested folder.
2. I had selected one folder (I don't think it was a stand-alone
file), then holding the CTRL key, I went to select another folder.
3. Instead of single-clicking, my finger decided it had Tourettes and
I double-clicked it.
4. The hang occurred immediately, although I wasn't aware of it for a
few seconds. The first file was fully highlighted, and the second
file had a ligher colored selection highlight.
5. The application was unresponsive, but I was able to move the
window. After a moment, the window grayed out.
6. I became impatient and invoked the xkill command.
7. Upon selecting the home folder from the Unity launcher panel, the
icon flashed for a moment or two and then nothing happened.
8. When I invoked nautilus via command like, I was given this output
after few moments:
me@mypc:~$ nautilus
Could not register the application:
GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply
(timeout by message bus)
9. By the time I typed about half of this error report, I was able to
run Nautilus from the panel again.
