Thanks. Comment #14 indeed shows you ran into a lot of trouble on 2018-06-15 and tried a lot of things to fix the nvidia drivers. The only thing is that the nvidia drivers have never changed at all since their release in April:

Something that did happen just before the problem began was a kernel upgrade: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/4.15.0-23.25 So that will have necessitated a rebuild of the nvidia kernel driver, which might have failed and would explain the issue. So... 1. Can you find any log or text files under /var/log/dkms ? 2.
