Title:
  Volume indicator doesn't work

Status in unity package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
The volume indicator icon shows the volume as muted, but sound is on.
I can click on the indicator to pop up the menu, but neither the
sliders nor the buttons have any effect.

Changing sound settings through the "Sound" unity control center
  application works fine.
