on the machine to help us get more information.
I can't seem to be able to reproduce the problem. So two additional
questions:
1. Do you have any network mounts?
2. Does the kernel show any errors during/after the hang? (run: dmesg)

gedit sometimes hangs when saving new file
Status in gedit package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
- start gedit
- type text
- choose save or save as
- don't type a name, but click the triangle left of the name of your home
folder (see attachment)
- sometimes gedit hangs now => text lost
- same happens sometimes when just waiting a bit after choosing save / save as
