changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if
you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version.
When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated
logs by running only once:
apport-collect 1498428
and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

Clicking a link in an email gets 'firefox is already running' error

Bug description:
This is not a consistent problem, but occurs frequently.
When I click a link in, for instance, an email I get an error message
'Firefox is already running' and the link does not open. Killing
firefox and clicking the link when it is not running is OK.
I also cannot always kill firefox from my own user id. See below:
