firefox not saving passwords

i am using xubuntu 11.10 x64 (fresh install) on a HP mini Netbook PC
with firefox 10.0.2. I have enabled "remember passwords" in
preferences but it never remembers the passwords. no problem on ubuntu
11.10 gnome desktop but having a problem on xfce (xubuntu).
