Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with Thunderbird.
You made this bug report in 2009 and there have been several versions of
Ubuntu and Thunderbird since then.
Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the
ticket?
Or, if it is still a problem, could you run the following (only once):
apport-collect 398895
and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for
this particular issue.

Installing CA certificates in Thunderbird gives no option to trust
IMAP/SMTP hosts

Bug description:
When importing a CA certificate in Thunderbird, the Downloading
Certificate dialog makes no sense.
Steps to reproduce:
1: Download a certificate, e.g. from http://ca.sikkerhed.org/ (direct url:
http://sikkerhed.org/files/certificates/sikkerhedorg.crt)
2: Save the certificate to a file.
3: Open Thunderbird
4: Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Certificates
5: In the Certificate Manager open Authoritie
6: Click Import
7: Browse to the saved certificate from (http://ca.sikkerhed.org)
8: The dialog Downloading Certificate opens.
9: Observe the following:
* The options given are:
- Trust this CA to identify web sites.
- Trust this CA to identify email users
- Trust this CA to identify software developers.
* These three options makes *no sense* for a CA in Thunderbird. What the
user wants is to trust the CA to identify IMAP servers, SMTP servers, etc. Not
web sites.
Others things wrong with this:
* There is no explanation of what a CA is and what it means to trust it.
* The window title is Downloading Certificate. This does not make sense as
the certificate is loaded from a local file and not downloaded. It seems that
this is just a hunk of code that is reused from Firefox without thinking.
