Thunderbird. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at
all reported bugs in a timely manner.
You made this bug report in 2009 regarding Thunderbird and there have
been many changes in Ubuntu since that time. Your problem may have been
fixed with some of the updates.
Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close
the ticket?
Or, if it still might be a problem, it would help us a lot if you could test it
on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an
issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running only once:
apport-collect BUGNUMBER
and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

TBird's audio new mail .wav sound just makes short static burst sound
on Ubuntu 9.10

Bug description:
Always use custom .wav sound for announcing arrival of new mail in
Thunderbird, but on new Ubuntu 9.10 installation, the .wav sound
chosen (same with others tried, too) merely gives a short burst of
crackling static type sound, however sound playing apps installed
(Movie Player and Thythmbox Music Player) play back these same .wav
sounds perfectly. Had no such problem with Ubuntu 9.04.
