Hello Martijn,
Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with Thunderbird.
You made this bug report in 2010 and there have been several versions of
Ubuntu and Thunderbird since then.
Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the
ticket?
Or, if it is still a problem, could you run the following (only once):
apport-collect 529216
and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for
this particular issue.
Thank you again for helping make Ubuntu and Thunderbird better.

Title:
Sound notification doesn't use a separate thread
Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
Binary package hint: thunderbird
When I receive a mail, Thunderbird plays my chosen soundfile, but the rest of
the application interrupt until the sound is finished.
When I receive a mail, there appears a mini-dialog with a bit information of
the mail in the right-down corner of my screen.
But the first paint for that dialog is when the sound finished, so I see a
gray, empy frame.
So, I think the sound must be played in a new Thread.
