Title:
smtp configuration is unclear about encryption options
Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
It appears that STARTTLS and SSL always encrypt all traffic, yet they
both list password options that suggest optional transmission of
unencrypted passwords. The code may (or may not) be fine, but the
documentation could stand to be improved.
The help menu took me to this page
http://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/manual-account-
configuration?s=starttls&as=s
which also suggested

Thanks.
