Title:
Drop screenshot placeholder area
Status in gnome-software package in Ubuntu:
Fix Committed
Bug description:
Upstream gnome-software is targeted solely at graphical applications.
So the app view has a large “No screenshots” placeholder, to encourage
the publisher to upload screenshots.
In Ubuntu the balance is different. gnome-software displays snaps as
well as .debs. And many snaps have only a command-line interface, or
(in the case of daemons) no user interface at all. It is still
*possible* to upload relevant graphics, for example a screenshot of a
terminal, or even a diagram. But it is much less likely, and those
kinds of developers are also less willing and able to do so.
Therefore, the Ubuntu version of gnome-software should omit the “No
screenshots” placeholder.
[This was discussed in the gnome-software design sprint.]
