Symptom sounds similar to that described in Bug 1166206

When email sender display name contains a comma, it appears as if it
were sent from two senders.
Example:
Message source: From: Something, Something Darkside <[email protected]>
Thunderbird: From Something <>, Something Darkside <[email protected]>
I had 38.8.0 from trusty-updates installed when I noticed this problem
and added the thunderbird-next PPA to see if it had been fixed. The
symptom still persists.
