I think it is related to the graphics driver (I am using i915) so I issued the bug for the xserver-xorg-video-intel package which provides that driver. I have tried booting different kernels, for example 4.4.0-66-generic https://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/linux- image-4.4.0-66-generic but I forgot to install linux-image- extra-4.4.0-66-generic https://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/linux-image- extra-4.4.0-66-generic
The result is that many of my kernel modules were missing (e.g., my WiFi driver, my graphics driver, my EVDI driver, etc.). When I booted in this state obviously many things were not working. But, my Firefox menus were working. My display was using some fallback driver presumably, which gave me a working low-res display. If I then install linux-image-extra-4.4.0-66-generic and reboot everything would be "back to normal" except that I was running on a slightly older kernel. However, the menus on Firefox would re-break. So there is almost definitely some kernel module that is causing the problem. I can do repeat these test and provide more details if it's helpful. Also, https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1782096 sounds identical (as well as the bug that is referenced in the comments of 1782096). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1782052 Title: Firefox "hamburger" menu not visible Status in xserver-xorg-video-intel package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: When using firefox there is a button on the top right (there is a "hamburger" style icon on it) that opens a menu. Since a recent software update I noticed that this menu is not visible on my system. I attached a screenshot to show how it doesn't show up even after the button is clicked :P ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.917+git20160325-1ubuntu1.2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.4.0-130.156-generic 4.4.134 Uname: Linux 4.4.0-130-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.18 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: KDE Date: Mon Jul 16 20:32:05 2018 InstallationDate: Installed on 2016-04-25 (812 days ago) InstallationMedia: Kubuntu 16.04 LTS "Xenial Xerus" - Release amd64 (20160420.1) SourcePackage: xserver-xorg-video-intel UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to xenial on 2018-07-17 (0 days ago) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1782052/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : [email protected] Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
