Sounds like it might be a USB connection/hardware error, which is
extremely common.
Next time it happens please take a copy of your kernel log and send it
to us:
dmesg > dmesg.txt

Bug description:
When copying certain files under Nautilus a 0 byte file is created and
error 'Error splicing file: Input/output error' is reported. It is not
clear what sort of drives are affected but it certainly occurs copying
to Dropbox and to a USB flash drive (NTFS).
Doing the copy with 'cp' at a terminal works fine. All files tried are
normal photos and docs, nothing large.
