Computer running very "choppy" since the last update.

Since the last update, my computer has been running very sluggish.
There is a delay when I type, pages don't scroll, pages are taking
longer to load, links click and open right away, and the processor
sounds like it's racing. There is sometimes a delay when switching
between windows.
