Not even terminals can be accessed (ctrl-alt-F2...6). This only happens with TWO MONITORS ATTACHED. One monitor: no problem. With nouveau driver, two monitors are working as well. ubuntu GNOME 18.04, clean install kernel 4.15.0-29-generic #31-Ubuntu Fujitsu-Siemens Celsius WT-380 nvidia GT 630 Tried nvidia340, 390 and 396 - all the same result.
