Title:
CUPS fails to enable printer after it's switched off and back on.
Status in system-config-printer package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
My printer is HP LaserJet P1005. My old OS was Karmic 9.10, it worked
fine then and now after 'upgrading' to Oneiric 11.10 it does not.
After I switch printer off and back on it either gets no firmware or
is not enabled. In either case nobody can print on it - in first case
it gets job but does not print (this kind of printers does not print
without firmware loaded) and in second case jobs are stacked in queue
until I manually enable printer in control tool. I'll cite my syslog
below for both cases. Hope you'll get it fixed.
First case (printer enabled, no firmware loaded):

As you can see both cases are identical up to line 'udev-configure-printer:
Device vendor/product is 03F0:3D17'. The most common is second case but
randomly first case comes too.
If I enable printer manually then it stays enabled until first case happens
(i.e. no firmware loaded) - I have to restart printer in that case so it's
disabled when I switch it off:
Nov 18 00:37:28 rep udev-configure-printer: Disabled printer
ipp://localhost:631/printers/HP_LaserJet_P1005 as the corresponding
device was unplugged or turned off
and after that as soon firmware loaded printer is left disabled again.
Packages versions:
cups: 1.5.0-8ubuntu4
system-config-printer-udev: 1.3.6+20110831-0ubuntu9.3
If you want any additional info then just let me know.
