Hello Zeth and August,
Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with
system-config-printer. You made this bug report in 2012 and Ubuntu has been
updated since then.

Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the
bug report?
If it is still a problem, are you still interested in finding a solution to
this bug?
If you are, could you let us know, and in the current version, run the
following (only once):
apport-collect BUGNUMBER
and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for this
particular issue.

Thank you again for helping make Ubuntu better.

Title:
Sharing a printer cannot connect when using .local name (which is the
  default)

Status in system-config-printer package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  I followed this:
  https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NetworkPrintingWithUbuntu

Two Ubuntu 11.10 machines (fresh installs). Setup printer on one
(print server) all good. When I setup the client, it automatically
finds the print server, and lists it by the Zeroconf-style local host
name i.e. computer.local. When I selected that and tried to print, I
  got:

Unable to connect to printer; will retry in 30 seconds...

If I ignore the automatically found Zeroconf hostname and I type in
the IP Address instead, it works perfectly. Something is wrong with
how the client printer server uses the Zeroconf hostname.
