Title:
Change in Capitalization Requirements for Samba Printers?
Status in system-config-printer package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
I've noticed that between Oneiric and Precise, the requirements for
capitalization of domains and printer names seem to have changed. For
example, for many releases I've typed "domain/server/printer" when
asked to set up a network printer using Samba. In precise, I finally
figured out that I must type "DOMAIN/SERVER/PRINTER." While this may
not be a bug in system-config-printer, per se, I spent a long time
trying to diagnose this problem before stumbling on the solution, and
it would be good to have some warning from the dialog box, especially
since the examples are in lower case. I've tested side-by-side with an
old release to make sure that it isn't some change that's happened on
our print server.
It seemed worth it to report this bug, since the default Gnome printer
configuration tool seems to be broken---it could lead a lot of people
to a frustrating experience. Thanks for the work you do on Ubuntu.
