Title:
libreoffice hangs on startup
Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
Expired
Bug description:
I've been using libreoffice off and on for a few years. When I tried
to use it today on my Ubuntu 16.04 LTS system, it wouldn't come up.
Clicking on the icons causes no action. Running "libreoffice" from
the command line silently hangs (nothing is printed, but the process
doesn't return). I can control-C it. I tried "apt-get remove
libreaoffice" followed by "apt-get install libreoffice" to no avail. I
tried renaming ~/.config/libreoffice to ~/.config/libreoffice-hang,
but also to no avail.
I can run "libreoffice --version":
$ libreoffice --version
LibreOffice 5.1.6.2 10m0(Build:2)
And if I try to run it without an X11 display set, it gives an error:
$ libreoffice
/usr/bin/libreoffice: 56: cd: can't cd to
/afs/cs.uwm.edu/users/csfac/boyland/etc/dept/2018-05-25

Failed to open display

/usr/lib/libreoffice/program/soffice.bin X11 error: Can't open display:
Set DISPLAY environment variable, use -display option
or check permissions of your X-Server
(See "man X" resp. "man xhost" for details)
But otherwise, I can't get any response: e.g.
$ libreoffice -V -V
