cannot print correctly on HP Deskjet 840C

Bug description:
I have some problems printing with HP Deskjet 840C. At times I can
print correctly while at times I have problems mainly with pdf files.
Sometimes they will not be printed at all (the status says "waiting"
or "cancelled"). Sometimes some pages get printed and the others fail.
I recently installed HP Tools and while initially I could print fine,
now it doesn't print at all or it prints ALL pages while I choose a
range of pages. I installed and reinstalled the printer and the HP
Tools to no avail.
