Title:
App Grid "Spring" Animation Increases CPU Usage and Drops Frames
Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Status in mutter package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
[This is a new report to reflect latest information, considering
previous issue report was submitted two cycles ago]
Opening the Applications Overview (App Grid) displays a janky
animation. Seemingly worse depending on number of application icons
being displayed, this issue will also instantly cause 2 CPU spikes.
Differing hardware configurations will see more/less pronounced
results; however, it is present to some extent on nearly every
machine. It will happen regardless of using the default XOrg or
Wayland. This bug is worse on lower-powered machines, with a 2014
Celeron CPU taking a 65-70% hit with no other applications open.
Work is being done upstream to squash this very complex bug.
