Title:
No sound after new installation Realtek® ALC887

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I installed Ubuntu Precise on my new PC featuring a Realtek® ALC887 audio
system.
For some reason the "sound Settings" settings had the S/PDIF output selected
by default.
Clicking on headphones, and clicking test had no effect. Eventually after
much frustration, the sound started working by itself.
